Your Locomotive is the ship you use to travel the High Wilderness.

Overview

The vessel with which you'll brave the heavens is a (distant, more sophisticated) descendant/relative of the steam-powered locomotives that once thundered through the British countryside. Its plating protects you from the deadly cold of the High Wilderness. Its engines negotiates the endless leagues of the sky. Its cabins and cargo hold keep you, your crew and your cargo safe during the arduous journey and its weaponry serves to defend against both criminals, outlaws and bandits as well as the rather dangerous native wildlife of the High Wilderness.

Accumulate enough money, and you can buy a new vessel, something more attuned to your particular tastes. Something nimble, perhaps, that allows you to easily brave vast depths of the High Wilderness? Or maybe something armored, that packs a punch? Or something built for distance, with plenty of cargo space?

Modules

Every locomotive has a different number and types of slots for modules. Each type can take different kinds of module: for example, most modules to increase your maximum Hull can only be attached to the "Plating" slot, whereas most that increase the size of your locomotive's Quarters or Hold can only be attached to "Auxiliary". Small Armaments can be attached to either sort of Armament slot; Large Armaments may only be equipped in Large Armament slots.

Equip your vessel as you see fit. You are only limited by what modules and what number of them your locomotive can equip so there is a lot of room for experimentation and customisation, depending on what your purposes are. You could modify your locomotive to be extraordinarily resilient through better armor plating, internal support pillars and a reinforced windshield, you could expand your hold capacity with various modules to allow you to carry more cargo or you could install mining and butchery rigs to allow you to obtain resources from more unorthodox places. The sky is the limit!

Locomotives

When you first begin the game your Captain will always start with a 'Spatchcock' Reclaimed Locomotive, equipped with the Cotterell & Hathersage 'Jerusalem' main weapon and The Shivering Jemmy engine as standard equipment. If you got lucky in the tutorial, however, you might also be to obtain a Reclaimed Marauder Mangonel early on (which can otherwise be obtained from Marauders).
