Loom[edit | edit source]

  • [0] With each step the shrieks of hours being spun backwards resonates through your body, leaving you shaking and worn.
  • [1] You hear the screech and shudder of the time-looms at full power, spinning the hours backwards for each and every one of you.
  • [2] The vibrations of the looms spinning up Below Stairs nearly knocks you off your feet. The hours scream backwards.
  • [3] It is as though time itself screams its defiance as the hour-looms spin and weave, keeping Perdurance locked in the same eternal day.
  • [4] If you were more fanciful you might imagine that you could feel the hours pulling at your skin; a sympathetic scream bubbles to your lips, but is lost in the sound of the hour-looms."
  • [5] The grinding and guttering of the looms Below Stairs adds an additional layer of horror to an already terrifying procession.
  • [6] You press your hands to your ears, trying to block out the howls and screeches of time being spun backwards for the pleasure of the Empress and her Perdurant Court.

Otherloom[edit | edit source]

  • [0] The keening of the hours as they are spun backwards makes your legs weak and your heart pound. You feel unaccountably wearied.
  • [1] You think briefly of the weavers and spinners Below Stairs, working desperately to keep the members of the Perdurant Court caught in the same repeating day.
  • [2] As you move through the passage, assaulted by the unholy clamour of the hour-looms, it is impossible to deny the grandiosity of Perdurance. Or its mechanised horror.
  • [3] The wailing of the hour-looms echoes off the walls, filling the darkness of the passage with untold horrors. Your heart beats too fast and your palms prickle with sweat.
  • [4] A desolate howling begins, undercut with a mechanical thrum. The hour-looms, spinning your time backwards, catching you in its stasis.
  • [5] This, perhaps, is the truth of Perdurance: the shriek of spun time and the growl of machinery, a gleaming veneer painted over an edifice of misery.
  • [6] The keening of the hours as they are spun backwards makes your legs weak and your heart pound. You feel unaccountably wearied."

Governesses[edit | edit source]

  • [0] You spot a figure masqued in a featureless black, their face covered by a smooth oval of polished obsidian. Who are they?
  • [1] You look around but the other members of the Procession are studiously ignoring those who wear the faceless masks; their fear is catching.
  • [2] You see someone in one of those strange featureless masques touch a Debutante on the shoulder: a brief struggle, and the Debutante is bundled away. You do not see them again.
  • [3] The smooth obsidian ovals of the featureless masks look by turns threatening and grim. You cannot help but be unsettled.
  • [4] One of those masked in smooth obsidian passes close enough for you to see that they are dressed in the crinolines and expensive jewels of a Debutante.
  • [5] A Chaperone is stopped by a pair of men wearing featureless masks. The passage twists, you turn a corner. When you look back, all three are gone.
  • [6] You spot a Servant in a mask of featureless jet, regarding the procession with an air of cool detachment. The rules of society seem to be suspended here.
  • [7] You look around but the other members of the Procession are studiously ignoring those who wear the faceless masks; their fear is catching.

  • [1] Perdurance's Morning Room is, this time, the domain of the Duchess of the Ante Meridium, bright-eyed despite the night's revels.
